Each year Princesses and partners train for weeks in the lead up to the festival ball. They learn a wonderful dance which they perform at the Piazza and again at the ball. Each princess is interviewed and ask a number of unknown questions. They are presented to the residents at The Myrtleford Lodge where they mingle with residents while waiting for their turn to be interviewed, before a dinner with the judges and then being presented to the town as part of the Festival Launch in the Piazza on Saturday evening.
At the Piazza they are asked a few questions and perform their dance as a final rehearsal before heading to the ball to be presented and once again perform their dance. At the conclusion of the dance the judges make their decision and the new Queen is crowned. The Princesses are judged throughout the entire process which includes the interview, how they interact with residents at The Myrtleford Lodge, how they speak at the Piazza, at dinner and whilst they dance. The Queen then leads them in another dance and they can enjoy the rest of the night at the ball with family and friends.
The Queen then leads the parade the following day and may help throughout the weekend during the rest of the celebrations. The Queen judges the floats at the following years’ parade as well as assisting with the judging of the annual Myrtleford show, show girl/boy competition.
The outgoing Queen also attends the dinner and Piazza presentation where she speaks and presents the new Queen with her crown at the festival the following year.
